Emily was a dear friend almost from the day I met her in 1997. I last saw her only a few weeks before she died and she was, as always, vibrant, curious, interested, beautiful and encouraging. I loved her dearly, and always will.

I was married to Emy for 20 years. Being married to her was an adventure. Not only was she beautiful but one of the smartest people I’ve ever known. This is not an exaggeration. But she did not know it. If she had a negative it was her lack of confidence in her abilities. When she moved to New York we would often talk about her future. When she had the opportunity to be the receptionist at the adult facility for the disabled I had to talk her into taking the job. We talked on the phone while I tried to point out her skills while she tried to convince me she had none. She took the job and “excelled” just as she had at Loma Vista school in Chico. She did not think she could that job either. I visited her in New York and saw first hand what a great receptionist she was. She could have run the place and in a since she did.
We met while working together at Bendix Aviation in Sylmar, Calif. It was there we fell in love. It was the little things that brought us together. She was impressed because I would tuck my shirt in when we went to lunch! I liked the way she stirred her martini. We were married in Las Vegas and eventually moved to Simi Valley, Calif. While there I started school under the G.I. bill. She worked nights while I went to school so one of us was always home with our daughter Jill and son Scott. When I graduated and got my teaching credential, I got a job with Butte County Office of Education. We moved to Oroville. She was not happy there so we moved to Chico where we lived for the next 15 years or so.
In Chico she enjoyed seeing the plays put on by Chico State University. Especially the ones Scott was in. She also took classes at Butte College. It was then that she immersed herself learning about Montana history where her father was from. She became an expert. We even named our dog after Granville Stewart an important Montana pioneer. As a result we all knew about Montana, Granville Stewart and Charlie Russel. She also took an interest in local Native Americans, often going on trips with her college instructor in search of artifacts. In New York she took up an interest ink baseball and even sent me baseball books to read.
Emily was not happy in the rural setting of Northern California. She always longed for the big city. while I was happiest in the small city. But she tried. She even went duck hunting with me once as part of a class project. She put on her rain gear and heavy boots and followed me to the blind. One shot and she was back in the truck. We had other outdoor adventures that were catastrophic which just amplified her desire to go to the city.
Emy was the best mother and wife and was always trying to improve. She was extremely kind and a true friend. She kept in touch with her colleagues to the end and was admired by all. I truly loved her. Our divorce was the hardest thing I have ever gone through. I’m so happy we have remained friends. I know she cares about me too as it was Emily and Jill who picked out my current wife, Kathy. M’lou (Emily) also had a history with Paradise Calif. As a child her mother would take her there periodically. She was unhappy there as she missed her dad. She even attended Paradise Elem. which perished in the recent fire that ravished Paradise. The world was a better with Emy in it. She willed be missed by all. Love you M’lou

We are still reeling from the loss of Emily in our lives. To meet her was to see where the unique, artistic spirit and individuality that so captivates me in my wife, her daughter Jill, came from.
Emily's indomitable will to follow her bliss and live life on her own terms always impressed me. I strive to make choices that work for me and move forward with the drive and passion that she displayed.
We bonded over our mutual love of the TV show Quantum Leap (Who wouldn't want a chance to go back in time and makes things right that once went wrong?) and old newspaper comic strips like Prince Valiant and The Little King, which she introduced me to.
Thank for sharing your grace and dignity, Emily. And for the greatest blessing in my life, your precious, astounding daughter. Love to you always.

Emy Lou is what the family called her. I was the matron of honor at her marriage to my brother, Ronny. We all eloped to Las Vegas so they could be married in The Little White Chapel where my husband and I were married. She was a loving and caring person. Emy Lou worked hard to help put my brother thru college and take care of her son and daughter. I had great respect and love for her. This so hard to write knowing she is no longer with us. With great sorrow and love to Skipper (Scott) and Jill (Jilly) . Aunt Bonnie
