Hazel M. Rekeda (nee Dam), 87, of Toms River, N.J., formerly of Irvington, N.J., died on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, in Morristown Medical Center. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, N.J., on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. Interment is in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, N.J.. Visiting hours are on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Irvington, N.J., Mrs. Rekeda lived there before moving to Toms River 24 years ago. She was a typist for the Home Insurance Co., Short Hills, N.J., from 1970 until retiring in 1985. She had also worked as a typist for the Prudential Insurance Co., Newark from 1942 to 1950. Mrs. Rekeda loved playing the organ and was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Holiday City South Senior Clubhouse, where she was editor of their newsletter. Mrs. Rekeda was the beloved wife of the late William Rekeda; devoted mother of Cynthia Mondino and her husband, Bart, and Wayne W. Rekeda and his wife, Anne; loving grandmother of Eric, Cassandra, Meredith, Lauren, Kelly and Blair; great-grandmother of Isla and Sophia; dear companion of the late John Kurtz. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Heart Association , 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, N.J. 08691 would be appreciated.
