Eugene C. Buerle Jr., 89, of Spring Lake Heights, formerly of Short Hills and Vailsburg, died on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at home in Spring Lake Heights. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church, 111 South St., New Providence, on Wednesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. Entombment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com Born in Newark, Mr. Buerle resided in Spring Lake Heights, N.J., for eight years, and was formerly of Short Hills and Vailsburg. He was a summer resident of Seaside Park. He was an investigator for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office from 1976 to 1996 when he retired. Mr. Buerle was also a lieutenant in the Detective Bureau with Homicide Department for the Newark Police from 1947 to 1972. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. An avid golfer, Mr. Buerle was a member of East Orange Golf Club and Fairway Mews Golf Club, Spring Lake Heights. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred McDermott Buerle; devoted father of Karen Buerle Iannaccone and her husband, Robert, Kathleen Buerle, Jean Buerle Farley and her husband, Dennis, and Eugene C. Buerle III and his wife, Christine, and loving grandfather of Kevin, Robert, Colleen, William, Bridget, Madeline and Christopher. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 2nd Ave., Long Branch, N.J. 07740, would be appreciated.
