Lloyd L. Friend III, 65, of Maplewood died on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 11:15 a.m. Interment is private. Arrangements are by the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Friend lived in Short Hills before moving to Maplewood 31 years ago. He retired in 2001 as director of Human Resources at AT&T after a 33-year career with the company, primarily with Bell Labs, Basking Ridge. He graduated in 1961 from Millburn High School and in 1965 from Princeton University with a B.A. in biochemistry. He was a member of the Essex County Country Club, West Orange. Mr. Friend was the husband and best friend of Patricia Kennedy Friend; loving father of Patrick L. Friend and his wife, Jane, Biffen K. Friend and his wife, Danielle, and the late Brooks G. Friend; beloved brother of Robert L. Friend; dear step-grandfather of Gigi and Colton; and is also survived by many loving friends, both here and in England. Please omit flowers.
