Norman A. Ubhaus, 96, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at his daughter's home in Union, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at The Jacob Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. Interment is in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Norman was born in Irvington, N.J., and resided in Maplewood for 67 years. Her served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was a fireman with the Maplewood Fire Department from 1953 to 1981 and a lifetime member of the NJ State Fireman's Association. A lifetime member of the South Orange Elks, he was chairman of its Special Children's Committee for many years. He was a charter member of the Maplewood Memorial VFW Post 10201. Norman was the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. Lawlor Ubhaus; devoted father of Susan Doyle and her husband, Michael, and the late Nancy Baechle and her husband, Robert; loving grandfather of Michael and his wife, Jolie, Matthew, Justin and his wife, Holly and Ryan Doyle, Erica Borroto and her husband, Clemente, and Laura Halleck and her husband, Bill, and dear brother of the late Edna Corbin. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to Special Children's Committee of the South Orange Elks, 220 Prospect St. South Orange, N.J. 07079 would be appreciated.
