Dewey Johnson Jr., 88, of Maplewood, N.J., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Prospect Presbyterian Church, 646 Prospect St., Maplewood, on Friday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. The family will be receiving friends at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Originally from Salpulpa, Okla., Dewey went on to achieve his Ph.D. in poultry science. Always in love with science, he spent his career working in biochemistry for Equitable Life Insurance and then Metropolitan Life Insurance. In his retirement, Dewey worked part-time for the EPA and then spent many hours as the volunteer operations manager for the Prospect Presbyterian Church, Maplewood. He was raised as a farmer and kept those values with him his whole life. Dewey loved to volunteer, garden and travel to historic sites. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carol; his three children, Paul, Mary Ann and Richard; stepdaughter, Cathey; stepsister, Earlene; brother-in-law, Earl; six grandchildren, Kevin, Erin, Yolanda, Tiffany, Caitlin and Hanlon; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jenifer, Christopher, Emily and Anabelle, and Carol's grandchildren. Dewey was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Patricia, and his son, Joseph. In lieu of flowers, donations to Prospect Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
