Obituary of Joseph Zuzuro, Jr.

Joseph Zuzuro Jr., 83, passed away at Morristown Medical Center on June 16, 2014. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, June 21, at 9:30 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. The beloved son of the late Joseph Zuzuro and Marie (Mercadante) Zuzuro, Joseph was born on Jan. 11, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of South Orange until moving to Madison, N.J., in 2002. He was the owner of J & R Carpet Installation and also Zuzuro's Carpet Cleaning. Joseph served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps and was an active member of the NJ American Legion Post 1000. He loved playing golf and enjoyed spending time at the Casa Columbo Club and American Legion clubs of Millburn, N.J., and South Orange. Joseph was born and raised in the "Church & Third Street" neighborhood in South Orange, which he was very proud of. He was known for telling such great stories of growing up there and anyone who needed information about the neighborhood knew that Joseph was the man to go to. Joseph was a man who touched so many lives in so many ways and will always be remembered to his friends and family as a diehard Giants fan. Joseph also leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 59 years, Rose Marie (Ippolito) Zuzuro; a dear son, Joseph Zuzuro III, of Madison, and cherished daughters, Mary Ann (Zuzuro) Wiewiorski (James) of Colonia, N.J.; Marie (Zuzuro) Lentz (Norman) of Sayreville, N.J.; Catherine Zuzuro of Denville, N.J., and the Angel of his eye, Susan Zuzuro of Madison. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Jennifer Rose Katz, Michael Joseph Zuzuro, Antonio Pasquale Zuzuro, and Angelina Josephine Zuzuro, and a aunt, Rose Mercadante. He was the beloved brother of the late Harry and Samuel Zuzuro. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905 would be appreciated.
