Richard B. Grove, of Berkeley Heights, N.J., died on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Genesis HealthCare facility in Westfield, NJ. He had suffered a stroke last August Born in Philadelphia, PA, Dec. 11, 1926, he was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia and of South Orange, NJ. He attended the Univ. of Colorado, Boulder, CO, where his education was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He subsequently was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad in New York City for 37 years, where he rose to the position of assistant corporate secretary. He retired in 1990. A long-time resident of Berkeley Heights he participated in numerous volunteer activities, including service on the Berkeley Heights Planning Board for 8 years., and as an active member of the United Way of Berkeley Heights for many years. He also performed volunteer work with senior citizens at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin, NJ, during vacations in Harvey Cedars, NJ. In 2000, he received SAGE's Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Farese Grove. He is survived by his brother, William Arthur Grove, Jr., and wife, Mary Ann, of McLean, VA, and his sister, Janet Grove Tietz, of Houston, TX, and husband, Fred, as well as by ten nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st, at the Church of St Andrew and Holy Communion, 160 W. South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his name be made to the Church of St. Andrew and Holy Communion. Arrangements by Preston Funeral Home, South Orange
