Margaret "Peggy" Hopkins Connolly, 88, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Vailsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, in the Canterbury Nursing Home, Cedar Grove. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 481 Sanford Ave., Vailsburg, on Friday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. Interment is in St. John's Cemetery, Orange. Visitation will be held at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit prestonfuneralhome.com. Born in Newark, Mrs. Connolly lived in Vailsburg before moving to Cedar Grove four years ago. She was a claims adjuster for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co., Newark, from 1977 until retiring in 1982. She also had worked in the Quality Control Department at RCA, Harrison, from 1953 to 1978. Mrs. Connolly was a member of the South Orange Senior Circle, and was a hospital volunteer for many years at St. Mary's Hospital, Orange, and Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville. She was a past member of the Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church, Vailsburg. She was the beloved mother of Jill Lynch, Beth Veneziano and her husband, Jerry, and the late James Connolly; dear sister of the late Buddy Hopkins; loving grandmother of Shawn, Brian, Charlene, Kelly, Maura, Jimmy, Gerald, Jason and Brian; also survived by nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 767 Northfield Ave., West Orange, 07052 would be appreciated.
