The community of Seton Hall University mourns the passing of Reverend Walter D. Lucey, M.Div., a retired faculty member of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. Reverend Walter D. Lucey passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing Home in Caldwell, N.J. Father Lucey will be waked at Lewis Hall, Chapel of Christ the Good Shepherd, at Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J., on Thursday, June 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. There will be evening prayer from the Office of the Dead at 8 p.m. On Friday, June 26, there will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Chapel at Seton Hall University. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Following Mass, Father Lucey will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Arrangements are by Preston Funeral Home, South Orange. For more information or to send condolences, please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. Father Lucey received a B.A. in American literature from Ramapo State College. He served for three years in the U.S. Army, after which he was employed by the IBM Corporation, where he was a marketing executive for 25 years. Upon retirement, he entered Immaculate Conception Seminary. Ordained in 1998, Father Lucey was assigned to Queen of Peace Parish, North Arlington, N.J., where he served for eight years. In 2006, Father Lucey was named a member of the formation faculty of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, where he served until 2013. In addition to his brother priests of Seton Hall University, Father Lucey is survived by his brother, Jeremiah; his nieces and nephews and many friends. The Seton Hall University and Seminary communities join Father Lucey's family and many cherished friends in mourning his passing and celebrating his life and dedication to spreading the Gospel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J. 07079 would be appreciated.
