Andrew M. DiElmo Jr., 74, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Monday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, N.J. Visitation will be held at The Jacob Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Newark, N.J., Andrew resided in Maplewood for the past 47 years. He had a bachelor's degree in political science from William Paterson University and worked for the Newark Police Dept. from 1964 to 1968. He also served on the Newark Fire Dept. from 1968 to 1969. Andrew retired as a lieutenant from the Millburn Police Dept. in 1994, where he had worked since 1969. He was a member of Millburn PBA Local No. 34 and was an avid fan of the N.Y. Giants and Yankees. He was the beloved husband of Alice Walchak DiElmo; devoted father of Andrew M. DiElmo III and his wife, Carmen; Theresa Smith and her husband, Scott, and Christopher DiElmo and his wife, Mercedes; dear brother of John DiElmo, Joan LoCurto, Victor DiElmo and Mary Anne Guerriero; loving grandfather of Edgar, Nicole, Meghan, Erin, Alyssa, Nicholas and Emma, and also survived by six great-grandchildren.
