Karl H. Becker, a 47-year resident of Short Hills, died suddenly on Sunday, January 27.Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Thursday, January 31 from 7 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, February 1 from 2 to 5:00p.m. and 7 to 9:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Karl was born In Perth Amboy, NJ and grew up in Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Muhlenberg College and received a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University. He was an avid handball and racquetball player for many years. He was a member of the 2nd place team of the NJ Handball League in 1971. Karl was a member of the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad for 40 years and served as President for 3 terms. He also served in other offices ands on several committees of the Squad. Karl had a 30-year career in marketing and advertising at Warner-Lambert, Colgate-Palmolive, International Playtex, Revlon, American Can and American Home Products where he was vice president of the foods division. He retired as soon as he turned 55 so that, as he said, he could see the world before he left it. He travelled to at least 140 countries as a marketing consultant for the United Nations Executive Corps and with Earthwatch and Global Volunteers as well as trips he planned. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Margaret Elaine, two sons, Andrew and Stephen, Andy's wife, Laura and their daughter Carly. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer Squad 188 Glen Ave, Millburn, NJ 07041 would be appreciated.
