Richard C. Wolffe, 85, of Millburn Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at his home with family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church 50 Short Hills Ave, Short Hills on Tues, Jan 8th at 10:00 AM. Interment Private. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Monday 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Born and raised in Montclair, Richard graduated from Montclair Academy and attended Columbia University. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and saw duty with Occupation of Japan after WWII and in the Korean Conflict. He earned several commendations including a Bronze Service Star. On his return from Korea he worked as a real estate broker and developer for over 45 years and maintained his office in Newark. He was the inspiration and developer of One Washington Park in Newark, which opened in 1982 and marked the beginning of Newark's Renaissance. This office tower was the first major project in Newark since the opening of 550 Broad Street in 1966.Throughout his life, Richard volunteered his time in many community service roles. He served as a Trustee and President of the Ward Homestead (Winchester Gardens) in Maplewood, the Advisory Board of Mary Baldwin College, and Christ Church Hospital in Jersey City. In 2008 in recognition of his personal service, Richard was bestowed with the Papal Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope Benedict XVI. He also enjoyed 44 years of membership at Baltusrol Golf Club and became emeritus member in 2011. His most precious joy of life was the company of his wife, family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of Benita Weed Wolffe. devoted children Rick Wolffe, Elliot Wolffe, Claire Carter, Wesley, Stuart and Scott Wolffe and twelve grandchildren.
