Arthur D. Klimowicz, 82, who was known as a fountain of knowledge about South Orange and New Jersey history, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Care One at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange, on Monday, May 21, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. only. Born in Newark, Mr. Klimowicz lived in South Orange for 42 years. He served as a librarian at Seton Hall Prep from 1946 to 1983 and was a part-time reference librarian with the Village of South Orange Library from 1963 until he retired two years ago. Mr. Klimowicz served in the Army during World War II and earned a bachelors degree in social studies with a minor in English and classical languages from Seton Hall University in 1946. He earned a masters in library science from Columbia University in 1956. Mr. Klimowicz was a member of the Bayley Seton League at Seton Hall and Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Fortuny Klimowicz, and devoted father of Mary Sodano, Linda Hult, John, Frederick, William Klimowicz, Theresa Degutis, Michael Klimowicz, Michelle Schultz, Christopher and the late Joseph Klimowicz. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
