John, of Garfield, NJ passed into eternal life at the age of 90 on Monday, November 2, 2015, at the Villa Marie Claire. Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline (nee Mazur) Chan; three children and devoted daughter and son-in-law's; John M. Chan and his wife Toni of Cary, NC; Donna Lengel and her husband Steve and Sharon Holle and her husband Rich both of Upper Saddle River, NJ. His oldest child, Emily Chan, predeceased him. He leaves behind ten grandchildren that he adored and cherished; Jennifer (Chan) and Landon Brock, Tiffany (Chan) and John Gregory, Alicia Chan, Stephen, Paulina and Mikayla Lengel, Brooke, Richie, Bridget and Nicholas Holle. Beloved brother of Anna Chan, Susie and her husband Walter Pitulej, Chris Grand and the late Helen, Mary and Anastasia. Born in Ohio in 1925, at the age of five he and his family returned back to their native Slovakia. Following WWII, he and his siblings came back to America. He began work soon after for The Okonite Company in Passaic, NJ and remained as a loyal employee for over 40 years until his retirement. He met his wife Pauline and they married in 1954 and settled in Garfield, where they raised their family and he resided until his death. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield, on Saturday at 8:30 AM thence to St. Michael's Cathedral 96 First St., Passaic, for the Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial, which will be held at 9:30 AM. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a 2:30 Panachida at the Aloia Funeral Home.
