Katherine "Kate" Kiernan Ullman, 90, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Orange NJ on September 19. She was surrounded by family and close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St, South Orange on Wed, Sept 23, 2015 at 10:30 AM. Final resting will be at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Tues 3-5 and 7-9 PM. She graduated from Columbia High School and Manhattanville College, as well as a receiving a graduate degree from the Art School of Pratt Institute. In 1948 she was awarded a scholarship to the first class at the Institute Pius XII Graduate School of Fine Arts for American Women in Florence, Italy. After graduation she returned to teach art at Manhattanville College until her marriage in 1954. She was a long-time resident of Orange, where she spent many years devoted to raising actively - her eight children. Later, she enjoyed frequent travel with her husband to visit her children and grandchildren across the United States, as well as many trips around the globe. She is survived by her beloved husband David Sr., to whom she was married for almost 61 years, her eight children: David Jr. of South Orange, NJ, Liz Grun (Paul) of Tigard, OR, Katy of San Francisco, CA, Diana of South Orange, NJ, Daphne of Tampa, FL, Douglas (Karen) of Arvada, CO, Geoffrey (Emily) of Lilburn, GA, and Richard (Lorie) of Montclair, NJ; nine grandchildren Casey, Daniel, Audrey, Steven, Madison, Rachel, Andrew, Violet and Nathaniel; as well as her brother, Brother Robert Kiernan, OSB and sister Anne Kiernan Fasulo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Benedictine Monks of Weston Priory, 58 Priory Hill Rd, Weston, VT 05161.
