Obituary of Michael J. McGrath, Jr.

Michael J. McGrath Jr., 88, of West Orange, N.J., died on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Cloud Nursing Home, West Orange. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m. A gathering will be held from 2 p.m. until time of service. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. McGrath lived in Kearny, N.J., before moving to West Orange four years ago. He was a bartender at Gasoline Alley in Berkeley Heights, N.J., in the 1980s and '90s. Mr. McGrath was a graduate of Seton Hall University. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, and was a radio man during World War II. He was the devoted father of Laurie Loeser and Michael McGrath III; loving grandfather of Justin and Timothy Loeser; dear brother of Theresa Smith, and longtime companion of the late Barbara Freese.
