John J. Sullivan, 87, of South Orange, N.J., passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, in the Stratford Manor Nursing Home, West Orange, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are by Preston Funeral Home, South Orange. Born in Flushing, N.Y., Mr. Sullivan lived in South Orange for 36 years. He was comptroller with William H. Connolly Insurance Co., Montclair, N.J., from 1981 until retiring in 1993. He was a graduate of New York University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and an M.B.A. in international trade. He served as a radio operator with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and the Knights of Columbus Council in South Orange. The beloved husband of Mary Ann Holl Sullivan, John was the devoted father of Mary Ann, Christine, John Jr., Eileen, Nancy, Karen, Edward, Jennifer (Richard), Michael (Jessica) and the late Grace Sullivan; dear brother of the late Catherine Ford; loving grandfather of 14 grandchildren; dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to John's caregivers, Marie, Andrea, Gifty, and Abby. In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Sorrows School or N.J. Sharing Network Foundation, 691 Central Ave., New Providence, N.J. 07974 would be appreciated.
