Lucille M. Mercadante, 78, a longtime resident of South Orange, N.J., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Jacob A. Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Avenue, Maplewood, on Friday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. Born in Newark, N.J. Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph M. Mercadante. She was a graduate of Orange High School, and moved to South Orange when she married in 1954. She was an office manager for her husband and then her sons at Joseph M. Mercadante Inc. Contracting Co. She was an active member with the senior citizens in South Orange. Her later years were spent in the company of friends with whom she enjoyed yoga, gardening, walking, and garage sales. She leaves behind many neighbors who will remember her generosity and kindness. She is survived by her loving children, daughter, Michelle Mercadante San Fillipo and husband, Rich; son, Joseph and wife, Patsy Mercadante, and son Robert and his wife, Robin Mercadante. She was a beloved grandmother who bestowed a generous heart upon her grandchildren, Joseph and Jenna Mercadante, Laura, Jackie and Julie San Fillipo, and Dana, Kristie, and Sabrina Mercadante, all formerly of Short Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Barnabas Hospice Center, 95 Old Short Hills Rd., West Orange, N.J. 07052 would be appreciated.
