Obituary of Capt. Michael J. McCarthy

Retired captain Michael J. McCarthy, 55, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Vailsburg, died suddenly on Friday, June 5, 2009, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 481 Sanford Ave., Vailsburg, Newark on Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Born in the Vailsburg section of Newark, Capt. McCarthy lived there before moving to Point Pleasant 13 years ago. He worked for the Newark Fire Department from 1974 to 2004, and retired as a captain. He was the beloved husband of Debra Staatsburg McCarthy; devoted father of Melissa and John McCarthy, and stepfather of Crystal Troccola; loving son of Dorothy M. and the late John M. McCarthy; dear brother of Brian McCarthy, Noreen Cryan, and the late John P. McCarthy; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
