Philomena (Mary) Mercadante Cataldo, formerly of South Orange, died on Jan. 19 at age 92 at Shore Meadows Nursing Home in Toms River after a brief illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. Philomena was born on Jan. 22, 1916, in South Orange to the late Dominick and Marion Mercadante. She was one of nine children. Philomena was predeceased by three brothers, Dominick, Joseph and Carmen Mercadante, and three sisters, Josephine Mercadante, Lucy Petruzello and Antoinette Chaump, as well as four loving husbands, Daniel D'Amico, Louis D'Attalo, Andrew Olenick and Nicholas Cataldo. She is survived by a sister, Angelina DeCicco, a brother, William Mercadante, both of Toms River, and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations are made in Philomena's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) and/or Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center in Toms River.
