Alexander Shapiro, 98, of Maplewood died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at East Orange Veterans Hospital. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. Interment is in Rosemont Memorial Park, Elizabeth. Born in Bayonne, Mr. Shapiro lived in Maplewood for 57 years. He was a shoe manager with Nettleton Shoes in Newark from 1930 to 1970. Mr. Shapiro was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1942 to 1944.
He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Verlezza Shapiro, and devoted father of Donald and the late Jeannette Shapiro.
