Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Lawrence Noto, age 76, passed away peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on Monday, January 8, 2018, after a brief illness. Bill was born November 24, 1941, in Passaic, New Jersey, the son of Philip and Vincenza Noto. He shared his childhood with brothers Joseph and Philip and sister Carmencita. He attended the Pope Pius XII Diocesan High School in Passaic, N.J. and graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor's degree in engineering and from Columbia University with a master's degree in business administration. Bill was married to Marianna Santoro in 1966 and they enjoyed 52 years of devoted marriage. They raised their three sons, Philip, Thomas, and William, in Maplewood, N.J. In recent years they moved to Tinton Falls, N.J. and spent their winters in Highland Beach, FL. Bill was employed at Wakefern Food Corporation for over forty years, serving on the Executive Committee. He was the former Chairman of Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey and an advisor to Easter Seals of New Jersey and multiple other civic organizations. He enjoyed golfing, target shooting, cooking, and painting until the end of his life. He was an avid reader, especially interested in history, and a longtime member of Rock Spring Club in West Orange, N.J. Bill was incredibly gregarious. He loved meeting new people and striking up engaging conversation, exploring everything from current events, art, and music to European travel, engineering, and Italian recipes. His enduring interest in others led to many life-long friendships. Bill also sought ways to get involved and help, whether it meant serving on the board in his community, or solving a home repair problem for a friend or relative. He enjoyed spending a beautiful summer day at the beach. His generosity and sympathetic heart are legacies that will endure in the lives of those who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife, Marianna; and son Thomas, and his wife, Erin, of Hopewell, N.J.; son William, and his wife, Martha, of Niskayuna, N.Y.; and his grandchildren Sophia, Julianna, and Amos. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home in Maplewood, N.J. from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, N.J. at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in memory of Bill’s son, Philip, to Matheny School, 65 Highland Ave., P.O. Box 339, Peapack, N.J. 07977.
