Obituary of Kathryn L. Johnson

Kathryn L. Johnson, age 79, died Monday, May 6, 2024 at home in Maplewood.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St, South Orange, on Monday, June 24^th at 11:00 AM.

Kay was born in Winthrop, MA and has lived in Maplewood for the past 30 years. She received her M.A. in Secondary Education & Adult Education from San Diego State University and a B.S. in Speech Therapy from Nazareth College of Kentucky. Kay’s teaching career spanned from NJ to California and back where she finished her career after 38 years at Barringer High School in Newark.

Kay was active in her parish, Our Lady of Sorrows, serving as a Eucharistic Minister; and in many animal-focused organizations. Her kindness and direct style touched many people.
