Gerda Cadet (Mayas) Fleurisme, 85, of Livingston, NJ, died on November 3, 2017. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haϊti to Carmen Cadet and Albert Mainville on October 27, 1932. Gerda studied nursing and pursued additional training in midwifery in Canada. She began her nursing career as a registered nurse in the U.S. at Saint Michael’s Hospital of Newark and then United Presbyterian Hospital. She retired from the Veterans Hospital Lyons Campus in 1994 after 17 years. Gerda raised her family in Plainfield before moving to Apopka, Florida where she retired. Gerda is preceded in death by former spouses Andre Fleurisme and Jean Mayas. She is survived by her children Michele Mayas, Didier Fleurisme and Ginette Mayas Samwel and her husband Erik Samwel, grandchildren Tarikua and Tamerate Samwel, sisters Gloria Beauvais, Claudette Fleury and Danielle Morissaint, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Sat, Nov 11th from 12:30 - 2:30 PM followed by a service at 2:30 PM. Interment Private.
