Obituary of Carolina Parlade Sanchez

Carolina Parlade Sanchez, 104, passed away at home surrounded by her family in South Orange, N.J., on Oct. 13, 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Monday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. Interment is at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information or to send condolences please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. Carolina was born in Santiago de Cuba. She received her degree from the University of Havana and went on to become an attorney. She and her husband, the late Guillermo Sanchez, left Cuba in 1960, and lived in Jersey City, N.J., before moving to South Orange in 1963. Mrs. Sanchez was a part-time Spanish professor at Seton Hall University, but most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Guillermo R. Sanchez, and Earline, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; Manuel P. Sanchez, and Eileen of South Plainfield, N.J.; M. Carmen Bober, and Vincent, of Florham Park, N.J.; Luis R. Sanchez, and Anne, of Maplewood, N.J.; Carolina Sanchez Calabrese, and Anthony, of Maplewood; Pablo J. Sanchez of Dallas and Columbus, Ohio; Maria C. Santoliquido, and Joseph of South Orange; Rosa M. Sanchez Nishikawa, and Kenichi of Huntsville, Ala., and Magdalena S. Sanchez, and William Bowman, of Gettysburg, Pa. She is also survived by her special niece, Dulce M. Haley of Bloomfield, N.J.; special goddaughter, Rose M. Shoemaker of South Orange, and 30 grandchildren: Elisa, Cristina, Carla, Emily, Marisa, Laura, David, Michael, Alicia, Paul, Jonathan, Peter, John, Andrew, Matthew, Patrick, Elizabeth, Steven, Mary, Sarah, Elena, Mark, Christopher, James, Ana, Lucas, Joseph, Matias, Javier and Angela, and 20 great-grandchildren, and two on the way.
