Elizabeth Fudge entered this world in December 1931 to Ezekiel Davis and Mary Caine Davis of Scotland Neck, NC. Elizabeth was the youngest of eleven children.

The daughter of a preacher, Elizabeth accepted Christ at the age of 13 and soldiered for God until her departure from this world on July 6, 2023.

As a young child, Elizabeth loved to read, explore, and educate herself.  Elizabeth was intentional in her actions and her speech.  Although Elizabeth grew up during a time when children were to be seen and not heard, she made her voice and presence known when she felt it necessary.

Elizabeth had a zest for learning.  Elizabeth was creative and found that most skills came easily to her.  What Elizabeth did not learn through instruction, she would teach herself.  She enjoyed and excelled at sewing, upholstering, crocheting, knitting, quilting, pottery, cooking, volleyball, bridge, swimming (which she learned at 70 years old), and especially baking.

Elizabeth sought greater opportunities in the North as part of the African American Great Migration.  She held various jobs until eventually working at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital.  It was there that she met the love of her life, John Henry Fudge, Jr.

Elizabeth and John dated for a few years and married in 1960.  This union produced two children, Patricia and Adrienne.

Early in Elizabeth’s life, Lupus was diagnosed after many unexplained illnesses.  Elizabeth continued to work hard, creating opportunities, and enriching her life as well as the lives of her family and friends.  After residing in Elizabeth, NJ. John and Betty (whom she is affectionately known) moved to West Orange, NJ.

Elizabeth and John were dedicated to their immediate and extended families.  They worked tirelessly to increase their education as well as expose their children to cultural and academic opportunities.

Elizabeth Fudge is predeceased by her husband John H. Fudge, Jr (March 2020),  her parents, and her siblings.

Elizabeth Fudge stands as a role model of excellence in action.  Quiet yet fiercely passionate about loving well and living well. She was rooted in faith, truth, and loyalty to oneself, and to those Elizabeth loved.

A host of family and friends were blessed to know Elizabeth Fudge.  She had a great impact on everyone who crossed her path.  We will all miss Elizabeth dearly.
