George A. Conway Sr., 94, of Maplewood, N.J., died on Oct. 1, 2017, at Overlook Medical Center. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Teresa's Cemetery in Summit, N.J. The family will be receiving friends at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Friday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Morristown, N.J., George lived in Summit, N.J., and Chatham, N.J., before moving to Maplewood four years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II as a master gunner with the Coast Artillery in Hawaii, and then as a sergeant chief surveyor in Saipan. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in aeronautical engineering and went on to receive a master's degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. From 1979 to 1987, George was president of Conway & Grant Engineering in Summit, where he was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Old Guard. He was an avid outdoorsman with a lifelong love of skiing, fishing, and boating on the waters of Chatham Cape Cod. George was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Bader Conway and his son, William C. Conway. He is survived by his children, George A. Conway Jr. and his wife, Nansa, and Thomas A. Conway and his wife, Mary Staunton Conway; grandchildren Elizabeth, Erica, Aidan, and Eileen; his former daughter- in-law, Janet Kelly, and his sister, Ernestine Conway Smith.
