Mari was my mother's first cousin. They lived only a few blocks apart as children and frequently played together.
I remember my mother taking my brother and me to visit her at her vacation home in New Hampshire, where she raised goats for a while. I also remember a visit to another home -- and playing with Trudi & Phil, her children.
I remember that piano was important in her house. I think she and her husband may have both played.
Also, I saw her again when she gave me a tour of the neighborhood where she and my mother grew up. She was 85 at the time, and extraordinarily beautiful for that age -- with a ramrod straight back.
I learned at during the tour that there had been substantial jealousy in the childhood relationship, between my mother's family and hers, because my mother's family was not so severely affected by the Depression as the Bronsons -- which made me sad.
I saw her again at her husband's funeral.
I know my mother was very fond of her. I always thought that Mari was the relative who looked most like me when I was a child. I am sorry to have missed her funeral.
