Obituary of Stanley A. Milewski

Stanley A. Milewski, 88, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence.

Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Mon, May 16th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St, South Orange on Tues. May 17th at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Rd, North Arlington, NJ. 

Stanley was born and raised in the Ironbound section of Newark, which he always called “the best place to grow up”. In 1951 he graduated Saint Benedict’s Prep in Newark, where he cultivated his life-long love of reading and learning.  He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956-1958.  He joined the Newark Police Department in 1957, retiring as a Detective in 1990. 

Stanley was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus where he was the Past Grand Knight for Regina Pacis Council #4066. Through the Knights he became very active in the Right to Life Movement to protect the unborn and lend support to mentally disabled children.  He also volunteered to assist mobility limited Veterans in the East Orange VA Hospital.

Some of his fondest memories were family trips to Ireland, Italy and Poland.  But, the highlight of his life, he would tell you, was when he met Bridget Cooke.  They were married in 1960, and enjoyed almost 59 blessed years of marriage together.   Stanley was predeceased by Bridget in 2019, their son Matthew F. Milewski in 1993, and his sister Dolores Kurdyla in 1985. He is survived by his sons Stanley C. Milewski and Fr. Douglas J. Milewski.
