Obituary of Lloyd E. Matthie

Lloyd E. Matthie, 93, of Union, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Born in St. Mary, Jamaica, Lloyd migrated to the United States in 1980 in pursuit of a better life for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family.

Lloyd dedicated many years of service as a fire alarm electrical technician at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark, where he was known for his reliability and professionalism.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Maurice Matthie.

Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife, Audrey Matthie of 44 years; his loving children, Colleen Matthie, Diane Matthie, Joan Sanders, Ann Marie Virgil, Barrington Powell, and Grace Newbey; two son in-laws; Carl Virgil, & Kenneth Newbey, eight cherished grandchildren; and seven adored great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through each of them.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13TH, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at south orange vailsburg united Methodist church, 150 south orange avenue, south orange, NJ. A funeral service celebrating Lloyd’s life will take place on Saturday, June 14TH, at 10:00 am at the same location. Entombment will follow at Hollywood cemetery, union, NJ.

Lloyd e. Matthie will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and love of family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
