Obituary of Marie T. Jean
LIVE STREAM LINK FOR FUNERAL MASS
We implore Our Lord to receive unto His Kingdom our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Marie T. Jean, more fondly known as Gerania. On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, after 97 beautiful years on earth, she went home to the Father.
She was born in Pilate, in the northern part of Haiti, on January 9, 1928, to the late Joseph Montreuil, her father, and Dorancia Pradieu, her mother.
At a very young age, Gerania and her sister were sent to Cap-Haitien to join the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny to continue their education. After obtaining her diploma, Gerania was admitted to the École Normale du Cap-Haitien. After completing her studies, she married Professor and lawyer, Molière Jean, who had fallen under her spell. From this union, three children were born, Dony, Lourdes, and Rose L Jean.
Madame Molière Jean lost her husband two months after the birth of her daughter, Rose. Later in life, her only son, Dony, on the verge of graduating from university, tragically lost his life.
Faced with such desolation and confronting this untimely adversity, Madame Molière decided to return to the capital of Port-au-Prince to resume her teaching career. A woman of heart in the noblest sense of the word, despite her ups and downs, Gerania never gave up. She devoted herself entirely to her children and their education.
In the most striking testimony, the late Father Polux Bayas, parish priest of Pilate, venerated Gerania as an illustrious woman, and declared to anyone who would listen that the depth of her faith, the strength of her character, and the courage she displayed in her mission as a mother and widow elevated her to the status of an icon in Pilate. She will never be forgotten, as she holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.
Preceded in the long march towards eternity is her husband, Molière Jean, her son Dony Jean, and her daughter Lourdes Emogene less than a year ago. Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother is survived by her daughter Rose L Jean, her grandchildren Nadege Jean, Donald Emogene , Reggie Emogene, Geranne Theodore, Fabrice Emogene, Gianna Emogene, Stephane Emogene, Léandre Jean, Myrtelle Mehu, Mikal Mehu, and Claude Mehu. Her great-grandchildren Fabrice Amari Emogene, Kendrick Khalil Emogene, and Nia Lourdes Gloria Emogene. As well as her sons-in-law Dieujuste (Gene) Emogene and James Theodore.
From the Jean, Emogene, Montreuil, Pradieu, Docteur, Theodore, and Mehu families, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who share with us in these moments of great sorrow.
